Skiers clinch gold in championships

TWO SKIERS have returned home clutching gold medals after racing to victory on the slalom course.

Jonathan Turner, who won two gold medals, and Alan Sippets, who won a gold and bronze, were both taking part in Special Olympics Great Britain’s National Alpine Ski Championships.

The event, which finished on January 22, saw 73 skiers with learning difficulties, 59 coaches and volunteers head for Pila in Italy.

Jonathan, 28 from River Way, Andover, was thrilled to have flown out to Italy for the championships and enjoyed sampling the Italian food.

Alan, 29, from Charlton, was also particularly impressed by the snow conditions in Pila which were described as near perfect for the competition.
