Fred Betteridge places decided

1:20pm Wednesday 8th February 2012

The quarter-finals of the Fred Betteridge Pairs competition threw up some nail-biting matches, with the Mike O’Connor and Tony Bolton pairing reaching the semis by a single shot against the unlucky pair of Alan Batchelor and Nigel Horne.

Graham Osman and Peter Holmes also secured a place in the semis with their win against Peter Ayers and Olive Tabb. Two matches were held on the same night at the Chilbolton Gentlemen’s Club and with home advantage, the pairing of Korbin Lowe and Jay Ponting edged out a 55 points lead and were cruising against Ian Carpenter and Richard Stevens. They then hit a slump which let the away pairing back in with a chance.

Jay held his nerve to finish the match off with a 12 point advantage at the end.

The final pair to reach the semi-final was Dean Turner and George Carpenter who had great delight in knocking out Philip Langley and Shane Moore as Dean was on the wrong end of a beating by Phil two weeks earlier in a league match.

Mike O’Conner/Tony Bolton 100.

Alan Batchelor/Nigel Horne 98.

Philip Langley/Shane Moore 92.

Dean Turner/George Carpenter 100.

Graham Osman/Peter Holmes 100.

Peter Ayers/Oliver Tabb 81.

Korbin Lowe/Jamie Ponting 100.

Ian Carpenter/Richard Stevens 88.
